"Walking and Gaiting, A Tale of Shoes"

Did you find the shoe on your foot? Here is a question of circumstance in the run-up to the lovers' day on February 14. It reminds us how essential shoes are. This is why the Musée des Arts Décoratifs is dedicating its latest exhibition to him: "Marche et démarche". To be seen until February 23, 2020.

How do women, men and children walk across time, cultures and social groups? A first question that the exhibition tries to answer. To do so, it has brought together nearly 500 works: shoes, paintings, photographs, objets d'art, films and advertisements from French and foreign public and private collections.

The scenography takes you on an unusual journey through the history of footwear from the Middle Ages to the present day, in the West and elsewhere. A quest that raises a host of questions: what shoes did the children wear for their first steps? How have women who worship the small foot been able to reconcile the ideal of beauty and mobility?

From theory to practice, there is only one step! Then it's up to you! Will you be able to walk in one of the eight extraordinary models of shoes remade exactly as they were by bootmaker Fred Rolland? To find out, go to the fitting room!

Sports shoes, clown shoes, goggles or magic shoes, the exhibition goes around the issue. And don't forget to look at the contemporary creations that turn shoes into an art object...

You thought you knew everything about shoes? The MAD proves you wrong. It's surprising, original and exciting!

Put on your seven-league boots and hurry to the Musée des Arts Décoratifs before February 23rd!
